Mission & Serving

First United Church of Christ is a Christian community of faith united through worship, study, prayer, fellowship and service by:

Seeking to create opportunities that empower members to grow spiritually and to serve the community,

Living a life of stewardship of God’s gifts to us, &

Proclaiming God’s love as told in the Gospels of Jesus Christ.

First United Church of Christ is to:

Foster an environment of intellectual openness,

Encourage our members to grow spiritually though study and inspiring worship,

Provide opportunities for our church family to serve the community, &

Encourage fellowship of our church members through activities and service bringing everyone together as one body.

Here to Serve Within, Locally, & Globally

First United Church of Christ members volunteer to cook and serve meals four Saturdays a year at the Carlisle Salvation Army’s soup kitchen.

On the second weekend of each month, baskets of non-perishable food items are collected during our worship services for our local food bank.

Church members provide financial support and volunteer service to local charitable organizations: Meals on Wheels, Safe Harbor, Project Share, Habitat for Humanity, Truck Stop Ministry, Domestic Violence Shelter, Fruitbelt Farmworker, Christian Ministry, Samaritan Fellowship and Carlisle CARES.

We join with a team of community churches to provide safe, supervised sleeping facilities for Carlisle’s homeless citizens. Our church provides sleeping facilities for the month of March.

Members of our congregation participate in yearly mission trips. Recent years have included trips to Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS (2013), Rutherford NJ – to help with rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy (2104), and Neon KY -HOMES organization (2015). Next year there is a return mission trip to Neon KY to work with the HOMES organization, along with some other ideas.

Our congregation endeavors through contributions of time, talent, funds and prayer to alleviate human suffering throughout the world.
